Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and southeast of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919.
The Council’s mission statement is: “Working as one towards a better future through effective use of all resources”. This serves to give strategic direction to Council’s service delivery and its partnerships with the NT and Australian Governments and other stakeholders.
About the Opportunity
Due to continued growth, Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) now has two (2), newly created positions for Youth Services Coordinators to join their community based teams in remote NT. These roles are being offered on an initial full-time, 6-month fixed-term contract ending December 2017, however will be renewed subject to additional funding.
Operating under the Regional Manager of Community Safety and Coordinator of Night Patrol, you will be responsible for ensuring that high quality counselling services, case management and referrals are provided through the Youth Reconnect Program, a program of Roper Gulf Regional Council's Community Safety strategy.
To be considered, you must have tertiary qualifications and post-graduate experience in Counselling or Psychology and demonstrated competence in using a broad range of intervention techniques relevant to children, youth and families. You will have an understanding of human development theories, particularly child and adolescent development and knowledge of relevant legislation relating to children and families.
Candidates with an awareness of issues affecting Indigenous communities in remote locations will be best suited to these positions, equipping you with the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with Indigenous people.
