Leading complex industrial and employee relations
Senior Executive Service Band 1

The role

The National Manager, Workplace Relations Branch is responsible for leading a team of industrial and employee relations specialists, and managing the department’s relationship with unions and employee representatives at the national level.

The role requires an individual with a substantial record of achievement and reputation for innovation and delivery of results who can contribute to the strategic leadership of the department.

High quality candidates will have had experience leading workplace relations functions in large and complex organisations. They will have relevant expertise in developing and sustaining relationships with unions and employee representatives at the national level, and be accustomed to leading well managed workplace consultations. They will understand the criticality of consistency of advice, and be able to deliver timely and professional outcomes on code of conduct and related matters.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as human resources, workplace relations and/or law is highly desirable.

An order of merit may be established to fill other similar roles as they become available within the following 12 month period.
Eligibility

To be eligible for employment with DHS an applicant must be an Australian citizen. An applicant’s suitability for employment with DHS will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process.

This process includes a requirement for the applicant to undergo and satisfy a police history check and, where relevant, a working with children and vulnerable people check. The Department of Human Services delivers a range of health and welfare payments and services to millions of people across Australia. The department helps people through digital service offerings, by phone and in service centres, and provides advice on service delivery matters to government. It delivers a range of government and other payments and services to almost every Australian, including Centrelink and Medicare payments and services, aged care payments and Child Support services.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) has an opportunity for individuals with exceptional leadership skills to join its senior management team. As a Senior Executive in the Department, you will be responsible for the provision of high-level advice, setting directions, and for driving performance to achieve outcomes in a multi-disciplined, complex and challenging environment.

The Department will use this process to fill a range of SES Band 2 roles with the following positions being an immediate priority.

General Manager, Aged Care
General Manager, Customer Payment Services

The roles require individuals to be an outstanding leader and manager with a substantial record of achievement and reputation for innovation and delivery of results, who can contribute to the strategic leadership of the department. Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement, strong customer focus and ability to engender respect and trust will be highly regarded. Experience in a large, geographically dispersed and complex organisation is highly desirable, although not essential.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field are highly desirable.

It delivers a range of government and other payments and services to almost every Australian, including Centrelink and Medicare payments and services, aged care payments and Child Support services.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) has opportunities for individuals with exceptional leadership skills to join its senior management team in the Service Delivery Operations Group. As a Senior Executive in the Department, you will be responsible for the provision of high-level advice, setting directions, and for driving performance to achieve outcomes in a multi-disciplined, complex and challenging environment.

The Department will use this process to fill a range of SES Band 2 roles with the following positions being an immediate priority.

The positions currently available are:

General Manager, Smart Centres – is responsible for a Division which oversees the Smart Centres contribution to the Social Security and Welfare telephony and processing services to ensure they meet agreed targets. The role is also responsible for overseeing the effective delivery of Employment Service Assessments, Job Capacity Assessments and specialist heath/allied health assessments nationally.
General Manager, Service Strategy and Transformation – is responsible for the strategic planning for the Services Delivery Operations Group in order to optimise the operations of the various service delivery channels, ensuring services are designed to meet service delivery priorities and the needs of the customer.

The roles require individuals to be an outstanding leader and manager with a substantial record of achievement and reputation for innovation and delivery of results, who can contribute to the strategic leadership of the Department. Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgement, strong customer focus and ability to engender respect and trust will be highly regarded. Experience in a large, geographically dispersed and complex organisation is highly desirable, although not essential.

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field are highly desirable.

There will be an order of merit established to fill other similar roles as they become available within the following 12 month period.

While preference for the location of the role is Canberra, consideration may be given to high quality candidates who reside in Sydney or Melbourne.
