This disability-oriented federal government agency is currently recruiting for multiple APS 5 Local Area Coordinator’s for 12+ month temp role to commence June 2018.

Your new role
As a Local Area Coordinator you’ll work closely with participants and their families to identify what current and future supports are required to make progress with a person’s goals and aspirations and enable a good life. You’ll handle complex and sensitive conversations and consider many factors that need to be balanced in order to understand how disability impacts on daily living. You’ll work closely with participants and their families to build capacity to exercise choice and control and support them to achieve their goals by building new community networks and accessing support and services in their community. You’ll also work with local organisations and communities to build awareness and improve opportunities for people with disability to access and actively participate in community activities.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role you’ll have experience in human services, allied health, or disability and will ideally have relevant qualifications in one of these fields. You’ll have a contemporary/positive attitude toward people with disabilities and an understanding of its impact on individuals and will also have a demonstrated understating of issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. You’ll have strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills as well as strong organisational skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities. You will also possess strong problem solving and analytical skills, will be outcome focussed.
