Our Business & Private Banking (BPB) legal team supports the Business and Private Bank and product areas within Institutional Banking and Markets.

As such you will be supporting the following business areas: Local Business Banking, Regional and Agribusiness, Corporate Financial Services, Commonwealth Private, CommSec, Cash-flow and Transaction Services, Transaction Banking Solutions, Commercial Lending Products and Process.

Do work that matters:

You will provide strategic legal advice on a broad range of issues affecting BPB, including issues relation to:

  • Regulated and non-regulated financial products.  These may include commercial loans, deposit and transaction accounts, cash management solutions, merchant facilities, electronic banking, foreign exchange and global transaction products and services;
  • Business distribution channels  - e.g. branch, online,  third party in relation to the distribution of all BPB financial products
  • Strategic relationships with third parties including brokers, agents and business partners
  • Banking and corporate finance transactional work, preparation of documents, legal negotiation
  • Management of regulatory relationships between BPB and ASIC, APRA, AUSTRAC, CCMC and FOS/AFCA.

About you

You will need to have a thorough understanding of the commercial and regulatory environment affecting business banking, including knowledge of the Corporations Act, PPSA, all aspects of security documentation, ASIC Act, Code of Banking Practice, AML/CTF Act, ePayments Code, Electronic Transactions Act, Competition and Consumer Act, APCA and card scheme rules, Privacy Act, and the Australian Privacy Principles, in addition you will:

  • 7-8 years PQE
  • Possess significant experience as a financial services lawyer in a major law firm and/or a large financial institution
  • Have thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and the regulatory environment affecting business banking
  • Have tertiary qualifications in law
  • Be admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia.
