We're working hard to become a world-class technology & service organisation and are looking for a passionate Cyber Defence Specialist to help us protect the privacy and security of our customers and Telstra.

Our Cyber Defence team is essential in providing an orchestrated and rapid security incident response capability with an oversight of security incident response across wider Telstra and service, extending to our Managed Security Services customers. The Cyber Defence team provides a heightened level of incident communication in real time to senior management, business representatives, stakeholders and technical staff.

In the role of Cyber Defence Specialist, you will provide security incident management, to ensure incidents are driven to resolution whilst maintaining regular & informative communications to stakeholders. You will also provide the expected leadership and urgency to ensure all required resources, escalations and engagements occur in “real time” to resolve the incident or mitigate any risk by any means possible. Your key responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Control & Drive Technical Conference Bridges to achieve the shortest achievable customer & security incident resolution.
  • Manage the  incident bridges and ensure appropriate etiquette by ensuring the bridge participants are aware of their role and accountabilities
  • Ensure the required experts are engaged without delay and working on incident resolution.
  • Deliver timely and appropriate Cyber security incident reporting and situational reports.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and assist in the reduction of impact of a cyber security event or incident.
  • Provide Cyber security incident response on a daily basis when no major incidents are underway.
  • Work well with others focusing on being better together to achieve the best outcomes for our customers.

What we are looking for:

To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience and qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated genuine interests and passion in Cyber Security is a must
  • Please note due to the nature of the role, successful candidate must be an Australian citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Government security clearance.
  • Working knowledge of Security Operations environments and Security incident management & response handling
  • Experience in Security/Network/IT Operations roles & Incident Management or Tertiary and or vocational training (TAFE)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Windows / Linux skills and experience with scripting / programming
  • Knowledge of threat types and actors motivations is key.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in a 24x7 shift roster is mandatory
