The integrated mining and processing complex at Phosphate Hill and Mt Isa produces one million tonnes of high analysis fertiliser per annum. The facilities process phosphate rock mined from the Phosphate Hill resource with the production of ammonia from natural gas and sulphuric acid from copper smelter gases to manufacture phosphoric acid and high analysis ammonium phosphate fertiliser for domestic and export markets.

Reporting to the lead Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Engineer you will work as part of the sites reliability and improvement team focused on delivering electrical equipment reliability and integrity across all Phosphate Hill plant areas. Other key responsibilities will Include:

  • Support electrical safety management systems, standards and procedures and provide technical support to electrical workers
  • Ensuring that all electrical assets at NAO have effective Reliability and Equipment Life Strategies
  • Investigate reliability incidents using root cause analysis techniques. Conduct reliability studies using criticality data, and maintenance and failure history
  • Undertake reliability improvement projects including plant modifications and equipment upgrades.
  • Support contributions to annual capital plan, including capital replacement programs for obsolete and end of life of electrical equipment.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong desire to build a successful career. We are looking to hear from people with proven experience in petro-chemical manufacturing, fertiliser manufacturing, power generation or similar heavy industry environment. Other desired skills and experience include:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience that would otherwise satisfy IEAust Chartered Professional Engineer status.
  • Experience in maintenance and/or engineering of a chemical manufacturing plant or similar heavy industry environment
  • Demonstrated ability in optimising reliability e.g. reducing failure rates, increasing uptime, etc.
  • Understanding of RBM (Risk-based Maintenance) and RCM (reliability centered maintenance) maintenance strategy development.
