This is an opportunity to join a small and dynamic team responsible for developing policy and advice on issues involving the Australian steel, aluminium and other metals sectors. We work closely with our Minister's Office and engage with a range of stakeholders including other government agencies, state governments, industry associations and manufacturers. The team is also leading the whole-of-government approach to the future of steelmaking in Whyalla, South Australia.
This role provides an opportunity to apply your analytical and policy skills to a variety of high profile issues relating to the steel and aluminium sectors, to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, and contribute to policy development.
What we're looking for
We are looking for a candidate with a strong mix of well developed analytical and problem solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, an ability to quickly and effectively evaluate quantitative and qualitative data and a capacity to develop concise policy advice and recommendations. Experience in managing staff and knowing when to delegate are also important attributes. While the team has a strong need for a candidate with strong quantitative and qualitative data evaluation skills, the successful candidate will need to bring all the above mentioned skills to be successful in the challenging and dynamic work environment where teamwork and flexibility are also critical.
The impact you'll have
The successful candidate will play key role in developing evidence based policy to address both short term and longer term industry challenges, drafting briefing and ministerial responses, and preparing the government response to the Senate Inquiry into the future of the Australian Steel Industry. You will also have the opportunity to use your well-developed communication and networking skills to build strong links with a diverse range of industry and government stakeholders.
