Education consultant required for schools-based Mental Health Program - permanent job based in Darwin NT.


Your new organisation
This national non-profit organisation works to build resilience in young people through the provision of mental health services. They are now seeking a Consultant - Education to implement their new schools-based program in the NT, focussed primarily around suicide prevention and postvention support.


Your new role
Reporting to the Territory Manager you’ll will be a qualified professional with experience in influencing change and working in collaborative partnerships with school leadership teams and/or education authorities. You’ll have an understanding of youth mental health issues including suicide postvention, suicide and trauma. Key responsibilities include:



  • Championing the mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention elements of the program with prospective and participating schools through a relationship-based approach.

  • Demonstrating the integrated framework to prospective and participating schools to assist them in implementing the components relevant for their individual circumstances, leading to the ongoing professional development of school staff.

  • Working with Early Childhood Australia Consultants of the early learning services component of the MHE as appropriate to support early learning environments, schools and children in their transition from early learning into school.

  • Undertaking strategic analysis of their assigned territory to identify prospective schools and other related challenges.

  • Maintaining strategic relationships with relevant organisations within their assigned territory for the purpose of supporting their prospective and participating schools.

  • Supplying management with oral and written reports on school’s needs, problems, interests, competitive activities and potential for new resources/materials to be built into the integrated framework.

  • Keeping informed of updates to the framework, promotional activity of the integrated program, competitive activities and changes impacting on school environments.

  • Participating in conferences and similar events related to the integrated program.




What you'll need to succeed
As the successful candidate you’ll have a tertiary qualification in education, public health promotion, community development and/or mental health, or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. You’ll have experience in influencing change and working in collaborative partnerships with school leadership teams and/or education authorities, as well as an understanding of youth mental health issues including suicide postvention, suicide, and the impact of trauma on school communities. You’ll have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills and will have, or will be willing to obtain, a Police Check, and Ochre (Working with Children) Card. A current driver’s license and willingness to travel overnight are also required.
