This is not your average Work for the Dole activity!

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic supervisor to oversee a team of job seekers planning, preparing and cooking nutritious meals to be distributed to local Not For Profit organisations for vulnerable individuals in the Port Augusta community.

You will teach participants invaluable skills in safe food preparation, budgeting, and the benefits of home cooking and good nutrition, which will assist them to provide better meals for their own families and enable them to apply for work within the hospitality industry.  

To be successful in this exciting opportunity, you will have food preparation experience and an in-depth knowledge of food safety, along with the ability to run the day to day operations of a kitchen, while ensuring the activity meets Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and the contractual requirements of WFD, including the provision of support and supervision to a diverse range of participants. The Supervisor will encourage and promote job search activities whilst supervising the Activity.

This position is being offered on a part time (25 hours per week), fixed term basis for 6 months for the duration of the activity.

What we're looking for  

  • Cert IV Commercial Cookery or qualifications in a related area;
  • Current basic first aid training or willingness to obtain;
  • Proven experience in food preparation and sound knowledge of food safety requirements;
  • Experience in training adults and motivating/supporting a diverse range of job seekers;
  • Experience managing WHS workplace requirements and managing WHS systems and processes in a work setting;
  • Ability to work with culturally or linguistically diverse people, Indigenous clients, ex-offenders, youth and disadvantaged groups;
  • An ability to use email, basic data entry and provide reports on attendance, behaviour and incidents on site;
  • Flexibility and the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve; and
  • Understanding of working with limited resources in a not for profit environment.

A competitive salary will be negotiated commensurate with skills and experience. By way of guidance, the base salary will be in the range of $49K to $60K plus superannuation. As Workskil Australia is a public benevolent institution, we can also offer a portion of the salary through tax effective salary packaging.
